I work primarily in oil and charcoal. My work is concerned with conveying my perception
of the world, using starting points as diverse as still lives, interiors and particular
paintings. For example, some of the images on view came about as a result of working
for many months from Velázquez’s painting ‘Las Meniñas’.
I believe that art is not to do with copying or making a reproduction of what is
‘out there’, but is a means of conveying states of mind, memories and emotions, evoked
by what is perceived. In this way, my work is hopefully a marriage of perception
I trained at the West of England College of Art and the Royal College, and now work
part-time as an art therapist with young people in a mental health setting.
